MATHEW MURRAY SADDLE #1000 COULD BE YOURS!
RAFFLE NOW CLOSED.
We’re building our 1000th Mathew Murray saddle!
We’re very proud of our achievements over the past 10 years and so thankful for the continued support of our customers, who value quality, Australian-made products. Making saddles and tack by hand in an industry inundated with cheap imports is tough and we couldn’t do it without people who believe that the skills we have are valuable and worth supporting.
We’ve thought long and hard about how to mark this milestone but the one we kept coming back to is fundraising for the Australian NPC Disease Foundation (ANPDF). Niemann-Pick Type C (NPC) is an extremely rare and fatal genetic disease with 1 case per 90000 births and, currently, no cure. Due to its rarity, funding research and supporting families falls to volunteers in the ANPDF.
We met in 2010 at our best friends’ wedding. Mat was Paul’s groomsman and Lyn was Pip’s bridesmaid (…and there may have been some Wild Turkey involved!) Over 10 years, and many laughs later, both families have three beautiful children, and we can’t describe how much we value their friendship.
We first learned about NPC when Pip and Paul’s youngest child, Tommy, was diagnosed at 4 months old. A massive learning curve later and we know that NPC affects how cholesterol and fats are metabolised inside cells, leading to cell death, which progresses to life-threatening complications. We know that Tommy is a happy, hilarious, 4-year-old who loves riding his horse, tormenting his older sisters, and doing anything on the farm as long as it’s with Pa. We also know that his speech and mobility are affected by NPC and that even a small cold is terrifying because of the risk of aspiration causing suffocation. What we struggle to know, is how to support our friends with such a tough diagnosis, and we are so thankful that they have the ANPDF. Please take the time to find out more about NPC and the ANPDF here.
We’d love for you to join us in celebrating our 1000th saddle, while helping raise money for the ANPDF to fund research and find a cure for Tommy and all the other young people with NPC.
Kind regards,
Mat & Lyn Murray
